Information Session on Schwarzman Scholars

  • Schwarzman Scholars is pleased to announce a virtual info session for prospective applicants. Anchored in a fully-funded 11-month Master’s Degree in Global Affairs at Beijing’s Tsinghua University, we are seeking high-caliber applicants who will represent the world’s next generation of leaders. With a front row seat to global crisis leadership and practical opportunities to construct interdisciplinary solutions, Schwarzman Scholars are better positioned to succeed and more in demand around the world than ever before. 
  • Schwarzman Scholars is open to students and young professionals between the ages of 18 and 28 years old, regardless of nationality, who are proficient in English and have obtained an undergraduate degree. Applicants from all academic disciplines and career paths are eligible. McNair Scholars Program 

  • McNair is almost at capacity for our 2020-2021 program year, but we still have 5 slots open. Students that apply by April 12th will get priority consideration.
  • Dr. Fields: “The McNair Scholars program is an excellent opportunity to explore research as a possible career opportunity and to learn more about, and successfully apply to, graduate school.  The McNair Scholars Program is open to students in all Arts and Science disciplines.  Fundamentally, they are looking for students who are interested in pursuing doctoral degrees.”
  • Program Description/Benefits:
    • Conduct research under the supervision of a faculty mentor
    • Participate in weekly professional development seminars
    • Receive free GRE and a $5,000 stipend
    • First-generation, Pell-eligible, and underrepresented students interested in PhD programs are encouraged to apply
    • MUST have earned at least 30 credit hours and be a full-time student.

Harvard Law School | Junior Deferral Program

  • Program Description: Students who know they want to go to law school but have an interest in exploring other professional, educational, or service opportunities first should consider applying to the Harvard Law School Junior Deferral Program. Through the program, students can apply to HLS as a college junior. If admitted, students must commit to defer their offer of admission for a minimum of two years once they’ve completed their undergraduate degree. They can then use this deferral period to explore their interests and gain hands on work experience before returning to the law school classroom.
    • There is no application fee for the Junior Deferral Program. Applicants are able to apply to the program free of charge through the HLS Junior Deferral Program website. This will save JDP applicants the cost of registering for the Law School Admission Council’s Credential Assembly Service.

  • Application Deadline: July 1, 2021 (application opens on March 1, 2021)
  • Virtual Information Sessions: April 29, and May 27. At the sessions, students will learn more about the program, gain insight into the application, and have the opportunity to ask questions about the process. You can register for the sessions on our Junior Deferral Program website.

Junior Jumpstart

  • Program Description: Junior Jumpstart is a free conference, open to ALL Washington University students. Junior Jumpstart 2021 will be held online on May 17-19. Junior Jumpstart is designed to help current Juniors navigate their next steps after Washington University. It is perfect for students who know what they want to do next, as well as those who are completely undecided. 
  • Junior Jumpstart contains a myriad of sessions that offer: 
    • Advice from young alumni who have broken into competitive fields 
    • Tips and timelines for medical, law, and graduate school applications
    • Resume and interviewing techniques from HR professionals
    • Information on national scholarship and fellowship opportunities
    • Financial management
    • Networking opportunities
    • And much more!

LEDA Career Institute

  • Program Description: LEDA Career Institute is a free program for low-income students who have completed their first year of college. For 5 days, students will engage with industry professionals to learn about career building. Due to covid, the program is virtual and will comp costs for wifi/hotspot and noise cancelling headphones.
  • It is important that applicants meet the following criteria: 
    • Be available for the entire program – Saturday, August 7  – Wednesday, August 11 
    • Identify as a low-income student 
    • Enrolled in a four-year college or university 
    • Demonstrated leadership or involvement on campus or in their community
    • Note: Low income students who identify also as a first-generation college student, are given particular consideration.

“Seeing ME in STEM” MO-LSAMP Speaker Series

  • Program Description: Join the Missouri Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation for its inaugural “Seeing ME in STEM” Speaker Series. This series provides an opportunity for current and future MOLSAMP constituents to cultivate their identities and future possibilities in STEM by interacting with “near peer” STEM professionals.

Class of 2021 Job Search Roundtable

  • Seniors seeking a job after graduation are invited to a new one-hour open discussion led by a Career Center advisor on the current job market situation, support options available, and the best resources to land the first job. This is open to all seniors, Class of 2021, and meets Wednesdays in January – April from 5-6 pm. If you know a senior who seems to be unsure of next steps, you might direct them to this series in CAREERlink.

  • The Career Center’s Career Peer team can help students on its new Live Chat! Students can upload documents, ask quick questions, or hop on Zoom to get face-to-face feedback on their career materials and questions. Live Chat is available:

Student Technology Services – Student Technology Coordinator (STC)

  • Description: STCs are residential student employees of Student Technology Services who work approximately 5-8 hours per week. The STC is responsible for providing technology support in the Residential College where they reside. The STC also provides support at the STS Service Desk (Gregg Hall) for a minimum 4 hours/week and maintains the computer lab(s) located in their buildings. More information here.

The Energy, Environment and Sustainability Internship Program

  • Program Description: The Energy, Environment and Sustainability Internship Program is a multi-stakeholder program that places students in research and project teams, while simultaneously providing professional development and enrichment training. When a student joins the internship program, they obtain professional experiences outside of the classroom that provide additional skills and learning experiences that strategically position them for a range of careers in the sustainability field.
